One of APDRA's missions is to promote forms of aquaculture farming that can contribute to poverty reduction while contributing to sustainable intensification of the countryside. Although its geographical area of expertise is mainly the African continent, the NGO remains very interested in the existing issues around farmer fish farming on other continents.
Taking advantage of the commitment of one of its members, Cambodian origin, the association has decided to invest in this country to have a better understanding of local realities and to mature its reflection on how to participate effectively in strengthening fish farming of family production units. Two exploratory studies, conducted by APDRA in 2013 and 2017, have shown that, if technical resources are there, as well as know-how, there is a real demand for long-term technical support from fish farmers. in place. Following this observation, a first pilot project started at the beginning of the year 2020, within the framework of the program Development of Fish Value Chain (DeFiP), financed by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). APDRA intervenes also through the AquaCAM Project, implemented by the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Developement (IRD) and funded by the French Ambassy in Cambodia.
To carry out its work, APDRA is working with the Trailblazer Cambodia Organization (TCO) and the French agricultural research and cooperation organization Cirad.
